Memory Station (“Trạm Ký Ức”, “the app”) is a personal journaling app for iPhone, developed by an independent developer (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the app.
The short version: we never receive any of your data. The app works fully offline and does not send your journal anywhere. The only exception is an optional, off-by-default check for new versions, described below.
What the app stores — on your device only
- Memories you write: titles, text, dates, moods and topics.
- Photos you choose to attach. The app saves its own resized copy (location metadata is removed) inside its private storage.
- Voice notes you record, and text transcribed from them.
- Letters to your future self, and when they should be delivered.
- Your settings, such as language, appearance, reminders and app lock.
This information lives in the app’s private storage on your iPhone and is protected by iOS data protection. We do not operate any server that stores or receives it.
What we collect
Nothing. The app has no user accounts and contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or tracking software. In App Store terms, the app’s privacy label is “Data Not Collected.”
The app only asks for a permission when you use the feature that needs it. You can change these at any time in iOS Settings.
| Photos | To attach photos you pick to a memory, and — if you choose — to save a memory card image to your library. |
|---|---|
| Camera | To take a photo for a memory. The photo is stored only inside the app (without location data) and is not added to your photo library. |
| Microphone | To record voice notes. Recordings are stored only on your device. |
| Speech Recognition | To turn your voice notes into text. Transcription is required to run on your device; if your iPhone can’t transcribe a language offline, the app keeps the recording and does not send it anywhere. |
| Face ID / Passcode | Optional app lock. Authentication is handled by iOS; the app never sees your face data or passcode. |
| Notifications | Optional gentle reminders, festival reminders and “your letter has arrived” alerts. They are scheduled locally on your device and never include your journal text. |
| Journaling Suggestions | On iPhone, Apple can suggest moments from your day (photos, places, music, workouts). Suggestions are prepared by iOS on your device; the app only receives the ones you pick, and keeps them in your memory. |
Backups you create
“Backup & restore” lets you export a .zip file of your journal. The file is created only when you ask, and you decide where to keep it (for example Files, iCloud Drive or a computer). Backup files are not encrypted, so anyone with the file can read your journal — please store it somewhere only you can access.
iPhone backups
Like most apps, the app’s data is included in your regular iPhone backup (iCloud Backup or a computer) if you have that turned on. Those backups are managed by Apple and your device settings, not by us.
Sharing
When you create a memory card or year summary and share it, the image goes wherever you choose to send it. By default, cards don’t include your journal text, and the year summary contains only numbers.
Widgets
Home and Lock Screen widgets read a small summary that the app keeps on your device. When app lock is on, widgets hide your memories.
New-version check (optional, off by default)
If you turn on “Notify about new versions” in Privacy settings, the app asks Apple’s public App Store lookup service, at most once a day, whether a newer version is available. The request contains only the app’s identifier and your App Store country — never anything from your journal. It goes to Apple, not to us, and is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy. Turn the option off and the app makes no such requests and forgets the result.
- Delete any memory or letter inside the app. Sample content added at first launch can be removed in one tap.
- Delete everything by deleting the app; this removes all its data from your device (backups you exported yourself are not affected).
- Take your data with you any time with “Export backup”.
Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our side.
Children
The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Third-party code
The app uses open-source libraries that run entirely on your device (GRDB for the local database and ZIPFoundation for backup files). They do not collect or transmit data.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new effective date. If the app ever starts handling data differently (for example optional cloud sync), it will ask for your consent first.
